NIH neurological issues institute director is ousted

Walter Koroshetz, director of the Nationwide Institute of Neurological Problems and Stroke, will quickly be leaving his position, STAT has discovered. His departure within the coming days means practically half the 27 NIH divisions may have interim leaders.

Koroshetz despatched an e-mail to NINDS employees late Friday evening explaining {that a} request to reappoint him was denied, including that his present momentary extension ends Sunday.

“There’s some risk for a brief time period extension, however iffy at finest,” he wrote in an e-mail obtained by STAT.
